Our Instructors & Staff Members
Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.
Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students.
Michael J Scott (Master Instructor)
Leanne Coffey (Head Instructor Adults)
Leanne is a 3rd degree black belt in Hapkido and has her purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Leanne has had the opportunity to train with many world-class instructors and is always looking at ways to better herself in life and martial arts.
Leanne always wanted to learn martial arts, particularly after the Karate Kid movies. In 1993 at age 13 she was introduced to the art of Hapkido and was instantly hooked; Martial Arts has been a part of her life ever since.
Whilst Leanne has been teaching Hapkido in some way or another since the age of 15, she did not really discover her passion for teaching until the last 6 years.
Leanne is currently the head instructor of the adults Hapkido Program at CMA. It is a role she is very passionate about and she loves to challenge and bring the best out of her students. Leanne also teaches the fitness programs at CMA and the kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program. As such Leanne enjoys the variety of teaching different programs to many different age groups and abilities.
Leanne's other credentials & achievements in martial arts include:
Stephen Fellenberg (Senior Instructor)
Stephen is a 4th degree Hapkido Black Belt, a Blue Belt in BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and still actively trains and instructs in both disciplines.
Steve has been practicing Martial Arts for over 43 years – starting his training in 1972 at just 10 years old. He first tried Judo, training with his mates, doing jumps, flips & throws on old mattresses until they found an actual Judo class, where he progressed as far as Yellow Belt.
In high school he trained in gymnastics, which helped him gain flexibility, strength, and discipline. In 3rd form he won a scholarship to a years free training in Tae Kwon Do, where he feels his Martial Arts training really began. The following years entailed training in Tae Kwon Do, Ken Sei Kan Karate Do and even Hapkido in Parramatta for a while, but it was in March 1994 that he first started training with Mr Michael Scott.
To Master Scott's credit, Stephen achieved his 1st degree Black Belt in 1999, after many 2 hour classes, training 3, 4 and even 5 days a week. At Black Belt he feels his training started all over again - reviewing all the colour belts techniques so he could apply them "as a Black Belt" and delving deeper into the techniques to understand the very fundamentals of each one.
Stephen says he feels privileged to be able to train in Martial Arts, and especially with Master Scott; it has kept him focused, fit, disciplined and has challenged him to push through when it mattered most. Stephen offers these words of advice: "Don’t give up your Martial Arts as life does have its challenges. Personally my greatest challenge at present is the mental side of my ability to stay on track with my training to become the best that I can be in my own techniques and especially in teaching others.”
Natalie Scott (Head Instructor Eagles Program)
As a busy working mother Natalie achieved her 1st dan Black Belt in Hapkido in 2008, after 10 years of training. She hopes to grade to 2nd dan in December 2011.
Natalie's boys, Ethan and Ronin, both also train at CMA. Her main role within CMA is teaching the Little Eagles (3 years to 6 years old). She has been the Little Eagles Instructor for over 8 years, and during the last 4 years she has also been assisting with teaching the Eagles class.
Natalie loves "working with children and watching them achieve and obtain milestones they would never have believed were possible." She wishes for all the children at CMA to have a sacred place to train where they can feel safe, learn self defence and have fun in a caring environment.
She is also currently studying to be a Massage Therapist, and hopes to incorporate this expertise into CMA to help us all feel relaxed and happy about life!

Danielle's passion for martial arts and sharing that passion with adults and children continues to grow stronger with every year that goes by.
